Wind warning in effect for region

May 23, 2017 | 5:01 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat and much of Cypress County could get hit by high winds on Wednesday, according to the latest warning from Environment Canada.

As a result of the low pressure system moving across the province, wind gusts of up to 100 kilometres/hour are possible starting in the afternoon. The strong winds will continue through the afternoon, before gradually slowing down by the evening.

At these speeds, damage to buildings, such as windows and shingles, may occur, and loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause damage or injury.

Additionally with the low pressure system, an area of rain will move southeast from the capital region to southeast Alberta and the Saskatchewan border by the afternoon. Environment Canada is predicting between five and 10 millimetres of rain for Medicine Hat on Wednesday.
