MEDICINE HAT, AB – The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is postponing more elective surgical procedures as a result of an ongoing water quality issue affecting the ability to sterilize medical equipment.

Another 11 procedures scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed, bringing the total number of rescheduled surgeries to 149 since May 9.

According to a news release, the hospital is continuing to work toward isolating the root of the issue, after residue was detected during a regular check of sterilization and reprocessing equipment. The hospital is postponing elective procedures to ensure they have enough equipment for emergencies.

Details about what is causing the water quality issue have not been released.
