MEDICINE HAT, AB — The annual blessing of the bikes event is being held Sunday morning at Gordon Memorial Church in Redcliff.

The event is hosted by the United Motorcycle International club in Medicine Hat.

A short church service also recognizes local motorcycle enthusiasts who have passed.

The bikes are then blessed by the minister in hopes of ensuring the safety of riders for the coming season.

Following the blessing there is a charity bike ride in support of the Animal Pound and Rescue Centre (APARC).

It’s the second annual event and is being done as a poker run for the organization.

Cards can be purchased at the blessing event both before and after the service.

Organizers say hands are $20 for the first and $10 for the second with all proceeds going to support the care for the animals at the shelter.
