MEDICINE HAT, AB — May 6th marks International Female Ride Day.

It’s the world’s largest and only women motorcycle rider event synchronized across all borders.

“By participating and riding on this united day women, underline and demonstrate their passion, ability and enthusiasm for the activity,” is how the event was described on Facebook.

In Medicine Hat it was a chance for all female bike enthusiasts to get together for a ride out to Cafe Elkwater on a beautiful Saturday morning.

“There’s nothing better than having the wind in your hair and the sunshine in your face and then having amazing conversations when you get to your destination,” said organizer Heather McCaig.

McCaig said females often aren’t associated with riding motorcycles, but for those who do it’s nice to have a group of people who share the same interests.

“It definitely turns into a sisterhood,” she said. “You may have people who don’t have other ladies in their family and this becomes a great big family of riders.”

Around 30 women took part in the ride this year.

International Female Ride Day occurs each year on the first Saturday of May.
