N.S. police chief suspended with pay after being charged with sexual assault
BRIDGEWATER, N.S. — A police chief in Nova Scotia has been suspended with pay for 60 days after being charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.
The police commission in Bridgewater passed a motion during a closed meeting Thursday to suspend John Collyer, on the same day it was announced he was facing charges.
Pat Cappello, chairman of the community’s police commission, wouldn’t reveal the nature of the discussions at the meeting, but he said Friday that the allegations have generated strong emotions in the town.
“It’s an emotionally charged issue,” he said. “People draw conclusions … I personally will wait for the outcome of any trial that may happen before I make any judgments.”
