Wet weather slowing seeding progress in southwest Saskatchewan

May 4, 2017 | 10:57 AM

REGINA, SK — Farmers in the southwest corner of Saskatchewan are slowly getting their crops into the ground.

Wet weather has slowed progress in many parts of the province, with only two per cent of crops seeded so far in the region from Leader south to the U.S border. That’s behind the five year average of 15 per cent of the crop in the ground by now.

Producers in the southwest region of Saskatchewan report the fields are too wet and equipment is getting stuck in many fields.

They are hoping this current stretch of warm, dry weather will allow them to make progress in seeding this year’s crop.
