Local boxer loses national championship bout

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Local boxer Janick LaCroix lost his first bout of the year against undeniably his toughest opponent at the National Boxing Championship Friday night in the 70kg Junior Male Final.

Christopher Guerrerro from Quebec defeated LaCroix in the gold medal fight by a 2-1 split decision.

The Ponteix, SK fighter had beaten Steven Drmic of Ontario via unanimous decision to earn a spot in the championship.

Despite the loss, the 15-year-old LaCroix has shown he has the skill set and fortitude to be a contender on the national stage for years to come.
