Second and Third Streets downtown converted to two-way streets

MEDICINE HAT, AB – If you were driving downtown this weekend, you may have noticed some changes.

Construction work started on South Railway Street on Sunday, as traffic was detoured around the Second and Third Street intersection.

As part of the construction, Second and Third street have been converted into two-way streets.

The temporary change will allow drivers to perform a u-turn because access to South Railway has been blocked off.

The portion of both streets affected is between South Railway and Sixth avenue.

The city is hoping to make as many accommodations for business owners as they can.

Amar Mahdi says providing two-way vehicle access isn’t the only changes they’ll be making.

“We are trying to alleviate and minimize business owners,” says Mahdi. “The on-street parking will be lost, but we have provided 10 two hour parking stalls on the third floor of the transit terminal.”

Mahdi is encouraging residents to visit the city’s website (http://www.city.medicine-hat.ab.ca) for updates on the construction to plan their routes while driving downtown.
