MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner Member of Parliament Glen Motz has thrown his support towards Erin O’Toole for leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada.

Motz made the endorsement at his constituency office Monday morning.

“I am confident Erin O’Toole is the right leader who has what it takes to lead our nation back to respectability on the world stage,” Motz said in a statement.

Motz says O’Toole is getting his support for several reasons, including his “proven leadership qualities,” his “private sector, military and government experience,” and “an understanding of the needs of average, hard-working Canadians.”

Motz’ also cites O’Toole’s economic plan, his tough on crime approach, and an immigration plan focused on border security, but compassionate to legitimate refugee requirements, as other reason for his support.

O’Toole, who represents the riding of Durham in Ontario, was first elected in a 2012 by-election, and previously served as Minister of Veterans Affairs

Although he offered praise for all of the candidates in the election, Motz says O’Toole and Andrew Scheer are the only two candidates he feels are deserving of serious consideration as leader of the party, and adds they are the only two names going on his ballot.

The leadership vote takes place on May 27.
