MEDICINE HAT, AB — Expectations were blown apart in the Tigers 2016-17 regular season.

Medicine Hat won a remarkable 51 games, helping capture it’s first Central Division Championship in a decade.

Not many predicted such a successful year for the black-and-orange. When asked what drove the team from fighting for a playoff spot to highlighting the CHL’s Top Ten on a weekly basis, nearly every player agreed their leadership group was second to none.

That’s where Tigers assistant captain Steven Owre comes in.

Whether it was a calming voice in the dressing room, or firing up the team on the bench, the 20-year-old was a true leader for the Tigers.

Owre leaves the black-and-orange with 74 career goals and 147 career assists over five impressive seasons. More so, the Rocklin, CA product had a combined +18 career rating, the same mark in his final year as a Tiger.

CHAT TV’s Mitch Bach caught up with Owre following Tuesday’s heartbreaking Game 7 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes, to learn more about how representing the Tigers has influenced his hockey career.
