New Brigden School to remain open as a Grade 1-3 school

DUNMORE, AB — New Brigden School will remain open.

The Prairie Rose School Division voted to keep the school located 30 minutes north of Oyen open as a Grades 1-3 school starting in 2017-18 during Tuesday’s regular board meeting.

According to a release from the board, the school has also received a request from Education Minister David Eggen to add Grade Four programming to the school.

The school reported only two students enrolled in the former Grade 1-9 school, which prompted a feasibility study from the school division and consultation with the community.

The division also says it will continue to consult with the community about adding kindergarten programming to the school.
