EDMONTON — Edmonton Eskimos wide receiver Nathan Coehoorn has announced his retirement from football.

Coehoorn, who was born in Redcliff, made the announcement on Sunday through an Instagram post.

“I know I could still play a couple of years,” the post read. “However with how my body and more importantly my head have been acting up in the last couple years due to injuries, I feel that long term health and quality of life are my priority now.”

Coehoorn’s post added, “The spark and passion to play that I once had isn’t as strong as it was when I first started.”

Draft by the Eskimos in 2011, Coehoorn spent his entire CFL career with the team, winning the Grey Cup in 2015. It was Coehoorn’s catch near the goaline which put the Eskimos into position for the win.

In his six seasons with the team, Coehoorn record 211 receptions and 2,376 yards, scoring six touchdowns.
