Connie Oakes facing assault charges
MAPLE CREEK, SASK. — Connie Oakes is facing new charges, after allegedly stabbing a man in Maple Creek, Sask.
Oakes previously had murder charges stemming from Medicine Hat stayed, after a miscarriage of justice was determined in her murder trial. The co-accused in the case had recanted her testimony, which named Oakes as the killer. No forensic evidence had been presented to the court linking Oakes to the murder.
Oakes and Ricky Rockthunder, both of Nekaneet First Nation, are now facing charges including aggravated assault and forcible confinement. The alleged stabbing took place during the evening of April 5.
