LETHBRIDGE — Lethbridge Police are investigating after five puppies were stolen from a home in the city’s west and the owner of the dogs was assaulted when she attempted to retrieve them.

On April 2, just before 1:30 p.m. police responded to a report that an unknown male and female had allegedly stole five French Bulldog puppies from a home along Trent Road. According to a release from the police,  the couple attended the home after seeing an advertisement on Kijiji. The owner left the room for a short period of time and when she returned the couple and the puppies were gone. She observed the pair leave in a vehicle, and proceeded to follow them in her own vehicle.

According to police, the owner exited her vehicle at the intersection of McMaster Boulevard and Whoop-Up Drive and attempted to open the door of the suspect vehicle. The owner was subsequently dragged about 30 feet and struck by the vehicle. The vehicle was last seen eastbound on Whoop Up Drive. The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The puppies are described as three-week old French Bulldogs – two blue mantle, one blue pied, one blue brindle and one blue fawn.

The man is described as an Arab male in his mid 20s. He is approximately 5’7” tall with a thin build. He was wearing glasses, a blazer with white writing, a white t-shirt and a baseball cap. He spoke with an accent and had a short brush cut.

The woman is described as Caucasian and in her mid 20s. She is approximately 5’4” tall and 200 lbs. The woman has blonde hair, and was wearing a lot of make-up, spandex pants, a tank top, green jacket and a baseball cap.

The vehicle is described as a newer model silver Jeep, possibly a 2015 or 2016, with a broken mirror on the driver’s side.

Police have interviewed several witnesses to the altercation in the intersection and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403-328-4444 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
