DUCHESS, AB — The Village of Duchess was crowned silver in the “mini” Big Valley Jamboree competition.

La Glace, a hamlet in Northern Alberta, was named winner of Small Town Saturday Night 2017 with 30,862 votes.

Duchess was leading the race with over 22,000 votes before the leaderboard closed on March 26.

However, the village dropped to second place with a final vote of 30,560.

Tina Preston, a resident who registered Duchess for the compeition, said regardless of the outcome, she is proud of how the community came together to vote for the small town.

We were unsuccessful by 300 votes to win the concert,” she wrote on Facebook. “However, we were very successful in engaging our community – current residents & past residents in ways never seen before – in my eyes that makes us winners.”

Country singer, Gord Bamford will preform for La Glace on April 29  at the local arena.  Money made from the concert will go towards a new regional recreation centre for the hamlet.
