Murder suspect’s court appearance adjourned one week

MEDICINE HAT, AB — One of the two men charged with second-degree murder in connection with a New Year’s Eve homicide had his matters adjourned one week.

Luke Boxell, 21, was expected to enter a plea today during an appearance in provincial court on Wednesday. His case has been moved to March 29.

Boxell is one of two men charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of 24-year-old Jordan Pede. The second suspect, Leonard Beaulieu was arrested in Manitoba in February.

Pede was found suffering from a gunshot wound in Strathcona Island Park on New Year’s Eve and died 11 days later in a Calgary hospital.

On Tuesday, Boxell was granted bail on $10,000 bond with strict conditions. He has been released into the care and supervision of his immediate family in Manitoba, and will be under house arrest there for 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Boxell also cannot be in Medicine Hat unless he has a scheduled court date or a meeting with his lawyer.

Beaulieu, who was also charged with second-degree murder, remains in custody and is expect back in court on March 29 for a bail hearing.
