CALGARY – The provincial budget saw a pair of Medicine Hat projects receive funding from the province.

The expanded Medicine Hat Regional Hospital will receive $39 million over the next four years, with $12 million in funding coming in 2017.

Medicine Hat College is also to receive $4 million in funding for east campus development, money which will arrive in 2018. Tuition at all post-secondary institutions in the province will also be frozen until the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

Two projects for Medicine Hat were listed among unfunded capital projects for the province. One project was work on the intersection between the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 3, along with modernization of Connaught School. The projects could receive funding if they meet the criteria set out by the province, and if there is funding available.

The province also announced mill rates will be frozen for the coming year. The residential/farmland rate will remain at $2.48 per $1,000 of equalized assessment, while the non-residential rate will stay at $3.64 per $1,000.
