Medicine Hat Regional Hospital receives provincial funding

CALGARY – The Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is among the health care facilities receiving funding in the 2017 budget.

The local hospital, which wrapped up a $267 million expansion last year, will receive $39 million in funding over the next four years.

The hospital will receive an estimated $12 million in 2017-18, followed by $10 million for the next fiscal year, $9 million in 2019-20, and $8 million in 2020-21.

The provincial budget set aside $21 billion for the Ministry of Health, the largest ministry to receive funding this year. In addition to the Medicine Hat hospital, the Ministry of Health has set aside $400 million over four years starting next year for a new hospital in Edmonton.

The province has also set aside $249 million for primary care support, along with $211 million for human tissue and blood services, $45 million for addiction and mental health support and $2.2 billion for drug and supplemental health benefits.
