City seeking input on Riverside neighbourhood plan

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The City of Medicine Hat is hosting an open house tonight at Riverside school.

The city is looking to talk to residents in the Riverside area after several concerns were raised over recent closures.

Back in 2015, SD76 announced it would be closing Riverside school, which will happen on June 30th 2017.

In December the City made the decision to close Heald pool in an attempt to save money on what they determined was an under preforming outdoor pool.

Many residents have since raised concerns over the decreasing number of services in the area.

The city is holding the open house Tuesday evening to share plans for future development in the area.

Some of the proposals include developing a new area to build homes, and a possible pedestrian bridge over the river to connect residents to more pathways and the downtown core.

Robert Sissons with the city said they’re looking for input from Riverside residents on what they’d like to see happen in the neighbourhood.

“We’re really hoping any residents and businesses that are down in the riverside neighbourhood are definitely invited,” he said. “We’re hoping that they come down and provide lots of input and we can have a good discussion with them.”

The open house runs Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Riverside Elementary.
