MOOSE JAW, SK — For just the second time this season, the Medicine Hat Tigers have lost when leading after two periods of play.

John Dahlstrom scored twice, but a late third period goal from Tanner Jeannot pushed the Moose Jaw Warriors overtop of the Tabbies 5-3 on Saturday night.

Medicine Hat is now 34-2 when leading after 40 minutes.

The Warriors, now winners of eight in a row, scored three goals in a final period which saw the Tigers outshot 19-8.

Both teams were locked in a 2-2 tie after the first period. The Warriors scored the opening two goals from Yan Khomenko and Thomas Foster respectively. Steven Owre, who collected back-to-back game winning goals in his two most recent games, got the TIgers on the board. Dahlstrom’s first of the night tied things up ahead of the first intermission.

The Swedish rookie scored his 27th of the season at the midway mark of the second period, giving the Tabbies their first lead of the game.

But the Warriors came out swinging in the third. Noah Gregor tied the game with his 22nd goal of the season with just over nine minutes to play. Jeannot pushed his team back on top with just 96 seconds to go.

Foster’s second rounded out the final tally of the night; an empty netter with just one second remaining on the clock.

Michael Bullion stopped 41 of 45 shots fired his way in the loss, while Zach Sawchenko, who’s named the WHL goaltender of the week for the second straight time, made 35 saves in the win.

The Eastern Conference standings are beginning to log-jam near the top. The loss holds Medicine Hat three points back of the Regina Pats, who lost in Calgary tonight. But the Lethbridge Hurricanes continued their two-month tear with another win in Saskatoon, inching the ‘Canes to within two points of the Tigers.

Medicine Hat finishes its three-game road trip with a record of 2-1. They return to action on Tuesday night, hosting the Kootenay Ice at the Canalta Centre (7:00 p.m.).
