Coaldale, AB — The Medicine Hat Cubs have been eliminated from the Heritage Junior Hockey League playoffs after losing 9-1 to Coaldale Saturday night. With the win the Copperheads swept the Cubs 2-0 in their best of three first round series.

A five-goal second period by the Copperheads dashed any hope Medicine Hat might have had of continuing on in the HJHL postseason.

Levi Anderson led the way in scoring for Coaldale with two goals and two assists while Calvin Swanson ended the evening with a pair of tallies. Brendon Benson had a three point night with a goal and two assists.

Keegan Bartram was the lone scorer for the Cubs, who were outshout 56-21 in the contest.

Kayden Pickles allowed 6 goals on 32 shots before being pulled at the 30 minute mark of the game. Dan Maier stopped 21 of the 24 Coaldale shots he faced the rest of the way.

The Copperheads are now set to take on Okotoks in the best-of-seven South Division semifinal series.
