Charges laid following Pincher Creek barricade incident

PINCHER CREEK, AB — Charges have been laid against a 53-year-old man in connection with an armed barricade situation in Pincher Creek on Wednesday.

RCMP have charged Dewey (Todd) Starzyk with careless use of a firearm and failing to comply wtih conditions of a recognizance in connection with the situation which closed several streets and businesses in the town.

RCMP were called to the house around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday morning after receiving reports of shots fired. As officers approached the home, a round was allegedly fired at officers.

Classes at local schools were cancelled for the day as officers worked for nearly eight hours to resolve the situation. Police arrested Starzyk without incident and there were no injuries sustained.
