Regional unemployment rate rises in January

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The latest reading of the job market from Stats Canada this morning, shows the regional unemployment rate for Medicine Hat – Lethbridge region is up 1 per cent from this time a year ago.
 
The unemployment rate for this region in January was 6.8 per cent — up from 5.8 per cent in the same period last year.
 
Alberta’s unemployment rate was 8.5 per cent – compared to 7 per cent a year ago.
 
Canada’s economy added 48 thousand net new jobs in January – and that lowered the national unemployment rate by a tenth of a point, to 6.8 per cent.
