MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Mall has released designs for what the mall will look like once renovations are complete.

Construction has been underway since the end of October at the former Target space.

The designs for the reimagined space are now being displayed throughout the mall in an effort to help shoppers visualize the changes.

According to the drawings, there will be around 20 new retailers. There will also be an updated and expanded food court with seating for 600 people, around 200 more seats than the current setup.

There will be new entrances to the mall which are expected to give the building a more modernized look.

The redeveloped Target space is expected to open August 1, 2017. The new area will include eight new retailers along with the new food court. Mall officials confirmed with CHAT News both Marshalls and HomeSense will be two of those new stores.

General manager Richard Okrainec said several other stores have signed leases with the mall, but he said he can’t release the names of those retailers at this point. He added the stores will all be brand new to Medicine Hat.

Okrainec said when the construction is done, the mall is going to look very different, especially when it comes to the food court.

“It’s a very very modern food court and you’ll see in the renderings just what it’s going to look like,” said Okrainec. “For people who have been to CrossIron up near Calgary, it’s kind of like that only smaller.”

Once the new space opens in August, the mall will then close off the old food court area to be renovated.

The food court space is expected to open in spring 2018, with ten new retail outlets.
