Police arrest three people for passing counterfeit money

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat police have arrested three people who allegedly passed counterfeit United States money in the city.

Between January 12 and 21, police responded to 11 complaints of counterfeit currency being passed at businesses and taxis in the city. Two men and one woman have are facing multiple charges in connection with five of the incidents.

Maximillian Brierley, 27, is facing five charges of utter or use counterfeit currency and five counts of breaching probation. Brierley made his first court appearance on Wednesday.

Daniel Kronebusch, 21, was charged with two counts of utter or use counterfeit currency, while Anna Genevieve Canning, 23, was charged with one count of utter or use counterfeit currency. Canning and Kronebusch make their first court appearance on March 7.

Police say the last reported complaint of counterfeit money being passed in the city was on January 21, and the remaining six files are under investigation. The primary counterfeit bills used were U.S. $50 bills, and police continue to work with the U.S. Secret Service on the investigations into the counterfeit money.
