Medicine Hat, AB — Member of Parliament Glen Motz says he’s profoundly disappointed with the Prime Minister’s recent comments about phasing out the oilsands.

Justin Trudeau has been touring around the country holding town hall meetings in a number of cities. While in Peterborough, Ontario, Trudeau was asked a question question about the government’s approval of pipelines, and their commitment to the environment.

In his answer, Trudeau said “we can’t shut down the oilsands tomorrow.” The Prime Minister then added “we need to phase them out.”

The comments sparked outrage among Albertans and Motz said it shows how out of touch the Prime Minister is.

“I guess it’s his naivety of what drives the economy of this country,” said Motz.

Motz said he’s already spoken with other members of the opposition about the comments.

“There are a number of issues on this break that this government needs to be held accountable on, and we will do that,” he said.
