City councillor taking leave of absence for health reasons

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Councillor Celina Symmonds announced she will be taking a leave of absence from her duties as city councillor for health reasons.
Symmonds, announced in a post on her Facebook page she has been dealing with health problems for the past nine months. She says the decision for the leave of absence is “to try and get my health back on track or if that is not possible at least take care of my body a little and allow it to rest,” the post states.
Symmonds missed Monday evening’s city council meeting and the State of the City on Tuesday. She has not stated publicly the health problems she is dealing with, and adds she is still keeping up with the content of council meetings and the happenings in the city.
Symmonds was elected as councillor in 2013.
