Dominant weekend for Rattlers men’s volleyball team

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s volleyball team returned to the court with a vengeance this weekend.

The Rattlers won a home-and-home set with the Ambrose College Lions on Friday and Saturday to start the second semester of play with two wins.

On Friday, the Rattlers were victorious in three straight sets in Calgary (25-20, 25-18, 25-18). Isak Helland-Hansen led the Rattlers with 13 kills through the game, while teammate Cole Sanderson had 35 assists and 10 digs through the contest. Keaton Strom had 13 kills for the Lions.

On Saturday at Medicine Hat College, the Rattlers were once again victorious in straight sets (25-9, 25-17, 25-18). Helland-Hanson once again led the way with 13 kills for the Rattlers and Cole Sanderson had 26 assists.

While the men were victorious this weekend, the struggles continued for the women’s volleyball team, who fell to 1-13 after dropping both games against Ambrose.

The Lions were victorious in five sets in Calgary on Friday (20-25, 22-25, 25-14, 25-18, 15-7), and swept the Rattlers in Medicine Hat on Saturday (29-27, 25-21, 25-23)

Tara Cooper and Paige Burton led the Rattlers with 10 kills each on Friday, while Amber Stigter had 16 kills on Saturday.

The Rattlers return to action this weekend taking on SAIT in Calgary on Friday and in Medicine Hat on Saturday. The women take the court at 6 p.m. for both games, while the men are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.
