Increased Attendance at Hidden Valley Ski Resort

MEDICINE HAT, AB — As the holidays wrap up for many students, so too does the busy season for Hidden Valley Ski Resort. The ski resort opened on December 17 and has had a steady flow of skiers and snowboarders everyday.

“Basically after Christmas through new years, that’s our busiest time,” said Cypress Hills Park Area Manager, Jarrid Jenkins.

Jenkins says their busiest day saw 674 people on the slopes adding that in general things are busier this year.

“We’ve seen an increase in the numbers of people out on the slopes and our annual pass sales,” said Jenkins.

It’s the first full year the slopes have been operated by Alberta Parks and Jenkins says they’re working to make the ski resort more of a family destination.

Lift tickets for the year have dropped by from $45 to $41 and season’s passes have also gone down by more than $100.

“Our approach is to continue shaping the hill towards that family destination, it’s a great place to go and learn,” said Jenkins. “We have something for everybody.”

This year’s cold weater has also helped with snow making. Between 9-10 million gallons of water have gone into cover the slopes in snow. This is the last week of snow and Jenkins says all lifts and runs along with the terrain park will be fully functional by next weekend.
