South Country Co-op donates lunch meat to Food Bank

MEDICINE HAT, AB — South Country Co-op donated an estimated $10,000 worth of sandwich meat to the Medicine Hat and District Food bank Friday morning.

“We know that a lot of people in need have children and so all those children go back to school and take lunches. So we thought for something different it would be good to do some packaged meat products.” said Operations Manager Paul Haynes.

The Medicine Hat Food Bank has their ‘Brown Bag Lunch’ program which offers a meal to several hundred students in the city whose families can’t afford to. Co-executive Director Celina Symmonds said the donation of lunch meat may make it possible for some of those families to pack a lunch for their child.

“Working with grocery stores is so important because this isn’t something we can take from the general public. The grocery stores are really the ones who come forward with this.” said Symmonds.
