MEDICINE HAT, AB — Homeowners will see an increase in their utility bills for the month of January.

The city released its electricity and natural gas rates for January, and residents will be paying $3.48 per gigajoule, up from $2.52 per gigajoule in December.

The average household in the city uses 11 gigajoules of natural gas per month, meaning residents will see an average increase of $10.56 cents on their utility bills.

Electricity is also going up for the month of January, with residents paying 4 cents per kilowatt hour during the month. The increase does not reflect the provincial carbon tax, which will also be added to monthly bills.
