Medicine Hat, AB — Just call them the comeback kids.

Down 4-2 in the third period, the Medicine Hat Tigers roared back, forcing extra time and earning a 5-4 victory in a shootout over the Calgary Hitmen Tuesday night in front of 3,808 fans at the Canalta Centre.

The Hitmen built their lead with a pair of goals from Beck Malenstyn and singles from Mark Kastelic and Jakob Stukel, the latter coming early in the third, but the Tigers kept fighting. Team captain Clayton Kirichenko scored on the power play to narrow the gap, and John Dahlstrom scored his 17th goal of the season to tie the game with less than three minutes to go.

Max Gerlach scored in the second round of the shootout on Hitmen goalie Cody Porter to complete the comeback.

Ryan Chyzowski and James Hamblin also scored for the Tigers. Shots were 46-37 in favour of the Tigers.

The Tigers improve to 26-10-1-0 to stay in first place in the Central division and the Eastern Conference. The Hitmen fall to 13-16-2-1 and currently sit in 10th place in the Eastern Conference. So far this season, the Tigers have beat the Hitmen in all three meetings so far in the regular season.

The two teams are back in action tonight at the Scotiabank Saddledome to conclude their home-and-home series. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
