UPDATE: Bow Island RCMP officer to stand trial for sexual assault

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Bow Island RCMP officer charged with sexual assault will head to trial on the charges next year.

Constable Elliott Teed will go to trial on March 10, 2017 on a charge of sexual assault and two counts of breach of trust.

Teed’s charges stemmed from a traffic stop on Feb. 12, 2015 in Bow Island.

It is alleged the officer touched a woman in a sexual manner while conducting a physical search during the stop.

The woman, who can’t be identified due to a publication ban, took the stand Thursday during a preliminary hearing.

A former auxiliary officer also testified on Thursday during the hearing, which continued on Friday.

None of the details of the testimony during the preliminary hearing can be published due to the publication ban.

Teed, who appeared in person alongside a RCMP Chaplin, has been suspended from duty since June 2015.

He will remain off-duty until the criminal charges are resolved in court and then his status will be reviewed.

RCMP said an internal code of conduct investigation is also underway into Teed’s actions and will resume once the case is complete.
